Amsterdam Art Fair 2017

Christie van der Haak – wallpaper, panels
Elmar Trenkwalder – ceramic sculptures

17 through 21 May 2017

At Amsterdam Art Fair 2017 Galerie Maurits van de Laar presents in stand 18 ceramic works by Elmar Trenkwalder in a setting of Christie van der Haak‘s patterns.
Austrian sculptor Elmar Trenkwalder (1959) is known for his richly ornamented and baroque ceramic sculptures with lots of hidden details. In his sculptures architecture and eroticism merge, columns are phallic and ornaments have voluptuous shapes. Christie van der Haak (1950) is a painter by origin, but has over the past decade increasingly applied herself to designing and weaving tapestries and fabrics. She uses abstract and floral motives that are mirrored and doubled into symmetrical patterns that remind us of Jugendstil and Art Deco.

By putting the sensual ceramic sculptures of Elmar Trenkwalder in a room covered with Christie van der Haak’s exuberant patterns a contemporary Wunderkammer unfolds that will overwhelm the spectator. The entrance of the art fair will also be adorned with Christie van der Haak’s wallpanels and a carpet. 17 – 21 May www.amsterdamartfair.nl

At the moment Christie van der Haak has a spectacular installation at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami. A large sculpture by Elmar Trenkwalder is on display in the exhibition Sexy Ceramics at Museum Het Princessehof Leeuwarden, The Netherlands www.princessehof.nl
