At the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe Marcel van Eeden (1965) shows a new series of 25 drawings Das Karlsruher Skizzenbuch (the Karlsruher Sketchbook), parallel to the exhibition Hans Baldung Grien – heilig, unheilig (holy, unholy). In the series Marcel van Eeden refers to the sketchbook of Hans Baldung Grien and paintings by Hans Thoma. The story is based on facts that took place in Karlsruhe during World War I as well as on Van Eeden’s own imagination.

Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, through 08 March 2020, www.kunsthalle-karlsruhe.de

At Circl.ART Amsterdam Marcel van Eeden shows his recent series The Rijnbar situated in an Amsterdam café during the 1950s. It is a continuation of the story that starts in the series Zigmund’s Machine, which tells the story of a device designed o extract the will from things. Van Eeden thus refers to Schopenhauer’s concept of will, conceived in his publication Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung.
