At Castle Helmond, Christie van der Haak has a solo exhibition titled Empress Maria of Brabant<\/em>. The installation with wall and floorcoverings, furniture, glass and fabrics focuses on the life of medieval Maria of Brabant (1189 \u2013 1260), who played an important role in the culture and politics of her age. Marjolijn van der Meij (1970) modelled a reconstruction of Maria of Brabant\u2019s face, thus giving her an identity and bringing her to life in the present. At the HEM Zaandam, three early works by Christie van der Haak have been included in the\u00a0 exhibition Chapter 3hree. In it curator Maarten Spruyt argues for an emotional rather than intellctual approach to art. He also poses the question how man can relate to nature in a different way: how do we find a new hold on a planet that irreversibly changes as a result of our behavior?
