Christie van der Haak and Fransje Killaars at Museum Jan Cunen in ‘Volgens Vaste Patronen’
Museum Jan Cunen shows work by nine contemporary artists in addition to several hundred design drawings from the collection of the former Bergoss carpet factory in Oss. The works in the exhibition Volgens Vaste Patronen (Along Fixed Patterns) are loosely inspired by the historic pattern designs and drawings. Christie van der Haak (1950) covered two walls of a room with continuous patterns, a third wall is divided into planes containing separate pattern designs. There are also two chairs upholstered with symmetrical patterns. Fransje Killaars (1959) made an installation with oblong fields of carpet in yellow, green and beige colors, a reference to the core business of the Bergoss textile company. On the far end wall of the room they are complemented by hand-block printed fabrics in green with a rectangle of multi-colored textile strips. The exhibition also features work by Yeşim Akdeniz, Sigrid Calon, Maartje Folkeringa, Bas Kosters, Esmee Seebregts, Kar Hang Mui and Sjimmie Veenhuis, in addition to historical pattern designs by the Bergoss company, which, among others created the famous carpet for the Theater Tuschinsky in Amsterdam.
