Dieter Mammel – Lifeline

Dieter Mammel (1965) has a solo exhibition at the Donauschwäbisches Zentral Museum in Ulm, Germany. The title of the exhibition Lifeline refers to the history of Mammel’s family, who had to flee from Timisoara at the end of the Second World War. The series of paintings he made for the exhibition address the themes of homeland, flight, shelter, family album and survival. Mammel focuses both on the collective traumas caused by the war and the difficult process of coming to terms with them and the subsequent healing process.

Lifeline was premiered in 2024 at the National Museum of Art Timisoara, the original hometown of the family in Romania and was subsequently shown at the National Museum in Pancevo, Serbia.
