Susanna Inglada, Robbie Cornelissen, Zeger Reyers at Noordbrabants Museum
Susanna Inglada (1983) was commissioned by the BPD Bouwfonds to create a spatial work marking the 50th anniversary of their art collection.
The anniversary exhibition, titled Samenspel (Interplay), focuses on the role art can play in our living environment and how it can bring people together. Susanna Inglada drew inspiration from Ovid’s story of Philemon and Baucis—the only villagers to offer hospitality to the disguised gods Zeus and Hermes, and were rewarded for doing so. She designed a pavilion constructed from arms, hands, and faces, installed on the museum’s forecourt; visitors can enter the structure and rest on a bench inside. This Hugging House refers to the importance of hospitality and human connection in our times of intolerance and fear of strangers.
Interplay presents an overview of works from the collections of BPD Bouwfonds and the Noordbrabants Museum, organized around the themes of Inside, Outside, Nature, Self and Other, and Endless Possibilities. The exhibition features a.o. Zeger Reyers’s (1966) photograph of a fire hose with oyster mushrooms and Robbie Cornelissen’s (1953) animation The Labyrinth Runner.
