Art Island will host 26 galleries in addition to the performance and film program On Golden Pond with work by Simon Gush, Guido van de Werve and Robin Rhode from The Ekard Collection. The program is conceived by Juliette Jongma, writer and curator and Sanne Luteijn, collection manager and director of the Ekard Residency. The fair takes place in the fortress island in the mouth of the North Sea Canal. Visitors will be transported by boat to the island from the waterfront, point of departure is Sluisplein 80 IJmuiden.

At the fair Galerie Maurits van de Laar presents in stand 24 a smaller version of Fransje Killaars‘s installation The Intuition. A large version of the work was previously shown at Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam in 2019 and in Killaars’ first exhibition at Galerie Maurits van de Laar in 2023

In the installation two kneeling figures wearing cloaks are placed on either side of colored carpet strips. You can see them as a kind of mediators who introduce you to the work and function as carriers of meaning and the viewer’s projections. They evoke associations with contemplation and devotion and have a performative character.

In addition to this installation, Fransje Killaars shows acrylic paintings on paper that reflect on The Intuition and Nabeeld (After Image), another spatial work of Killaars. In the paintings on paper, she further elaborates in colour on the concept and the emotional aspects of the installations. The paintings often lead to the creation of a new spatial work, like the smaller version of The Intuition that will be presented at this edition of Art Island.
