Susanna Inglada
Susanna Inglada (1983) makes highly expressive drawings of people who are involved in an intense, sometimes even violent interaction with each other. She first attended a drama course in Barcelona before she devoted herself to studies of visual arts in Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium. Her work therefore has a strong theatrical quality. Often the drawings are three-dimensional, they are cut out and put freestanding in a room like actors on a stage.
The drawings are made on neutral black or blue-ish paper, so all the attention is drawn to the human figures. Susanna Inglada describes this as: “characters are isolated from the places where they belong, by minimizing the background in black and white spaces or abstract forms. This opens doors to new interpretations. I am inspired by Spanish and Catalan culture, history and politics, violence and power are subjects that intrigue me.”
