Bee Embassy

In the gardens at Castellum De Hoge Woerd, NL, Zeger Reyers (1966) created the Bee Embassy in collaboration with Tim Joye of Reaktor 21 and Superuse Architects. The project initiated by Utrecht Naturally was set up to re-grow and spread the Black Bee, an ancient indigenous breed. The bee embassy consists of a dome-shaped structure covered with grass and 4,500 porcelain plates with bee-friendly flowers in between. Inside the dome is the hive containing the black queen bee. The bee embassy was opened on 5 July and is free to visit.
