Susanna Inglada (1983), who graduates this year from HISK in Ghent, Belgium, makes powerful, expressive drawings of men and women engaged in fierce and now and then even violent interaction. Her theatrical drawings are sometimes three-dimensional and set up in black and white or neutral colors. This enhances the intensity of the scenes but also creates a sense of estrangement. Shary Boyle (1972) is an established artist who represented Canada at the 2013 Venice Biennale. She makes ceramic sculptures and drawings in which she refers to art history, popular culture and folklore. Because of the deformations and exaggerations in her images, her work often has an edgy somewhat disquieting quality. For Snifter for instance she has a vamp seduce the nerdy Raggedy Andy, a doll from her childhood.

Cedric ter Bals (1990) graduated from the KABK in The Hague this year. Fascinated by World War I, he created the character of a German soldier, an alter ego that he presents in the historical context of Verdun, as well as in the present in his hometown Scheveningen. In small, colourful cartoon-like drawings he portrays the character as he searches for his origins and identity.
Marjolijn van de Meij (1970) shows new spatial work made from printed photographs of kitschy figurines representing a little girl on a prancing horse or a seated little boy. She folds and models the photographs into little statues that are transformed in such a way that they appear to be melting. This distortion forces the viewer to re-interpret these sentimental images from popular culture of the past.
