The Gasworks: Van Eeden & Van Gogh

In the Van Gogh Museum Marcel van Eeden (1965) exhibits gum bichromate photos and drawings inspired by a drawing Vincent van Gogh made in 1882 of the gasworks in The Hague. Van Eeden has an apartment near the site where the factory once stood. For the project, he made six large charcoal drawings on canvas of the gasworks and a series of 27 gum bichromate photos of the electricity factory that now stands on the site of the gasworks. With this the draftsman par excellence presents his photographic work for the first time.
