Twenty

21 oktober t/m 20 november 2011

Twenty years ago Galerie Maurits van de Laar was founded, since then may exhibitions have been organized and the group of artists represented by the gallery has developed. To celebrate this anniversary the gallery organizes two exhibitions and a jubilee publication will be issued.

Roel Arkesteijn of Museum Het Domein Sittard, The Netherlands, has been asked to co-curate the two exhibitions. In his days as curator of the GEM, Museum for Contemporary Art The Hague, the gallery has cooperated several times with him in exhibitions in the GEM of Urs Pfannenmüller, Marcel van Eeden and Zeger Reyers.

The first exhibition TWENTY, HOME will take place in the gallery at Herderstraat 6. Here smaller works will be shown, most of all drawings by amongst others Frank Van den Broeck, Robbie Cornelissen, Karin van Dam, Marcel van Eeden, Paul van der Eerden, Tobias Gerber, Nour-Eddine Jarram and Stan Klamer. The drawing has been a main part of the gallery programme throughout the years.

The other exhibition TWENTY, AWAY will take place in the rooms of artists’ initiative Quartair at Toussaintkade 55 The Hague. In this monumental space big, spectacular works will be shown: Taiwanese/Canadian artist Ed Pien will build a cylinder shaped paper installation, Elmar Trenkwalder from Austria will show a monumental ceramic sculpture, Robbie Cornelissen shows his monumental drawing The Gym and Christie van der Haak will cover the walls of an adjacent room with her textile designs.
